Of the two, Wisemonk is the cheaper option for India-only hiring: its Employer of Record (EOR) fee starts at $99 per employee a month, against Remote’s $599, and both employ staff through their own Indian entity. Remote is the better fit when India is one of several hiring countries, because it runs EOR in 90+ countries under one contract. For India-only hiring, Peorient’s first recommendation is Remunance, which starts at the same $99 and never charges more than $199 a month.

On an ₹18 lakh salary, Peorient’s India cost model puts the all-in annual cost at about $21,300 with Wisemonk at its $99 floor and $27,300 with Remote at $599. Statutory costs are the same with either provider, so the whole difference is the fee: $6,000 a head each year, or $60,000 for a 10-person India team.

We checked both providers’ pricing, product and help pages on 26 October 2026. Remote’s page now shows a single $599 EOR price; until mid-October 2026 it listed $699 for monthly billing, so comparisons written before then quote old figures. Wisemonk publishes a $99 to $399 range but not the salary bands behind it. For the full provider write-ups, read our Wisemonk review and our Remote review for 2026.

Below you will find a side-by-side table, all-in costs at three salaries, statutory payroll, benefits, support, exit terms, three hiring scenarios and a 15-minute checklist. We also price Remunance, Peorient’s first recommendation for India hiring, at $99, $149 or $199 per employee a month by salary band. Disclosure: Peorient is affiliated with Remunance and Rivermate and may earn a referral fee if you choose them. Remunance is our featured India partner and is listed first in our recommendations.

What is the difference between Wisemonk and Remote?

Wisemonk is an India-only Employer of Record that employs your staff through its own Bengaluru-registered company, while Remote is a global EOR that says it employs through 100+ entities it owns, including one in India. Wisemonk competes on price and a named local HR contact; Remote competes on country coverage and one platform for every market.

Wisemonk’s privacy notice names Storypeach Technologies Private Limited, of Seshadripuram, Bengaluru, as the company doing business as Wisemonk, and its site footer lists a US company, Storyy Inc., in Claymont, Delaware. Wisemonk says it serves 300+ companies and 2,000+ employees in India. Remote’s India employer of record page states that it owns its legal entity in India and delivers EOR in-house.

Does it matter that both own their Indian entity?

Yes, because the company named on your employee’s contract and payslip carries the statutory registrations, payroll filings and employment liability. With both Wisemonk and Remote, that is the provider’s own Indian company rather than a third-party partner, which closes one of the most common due-diligence gaps with global EOR providers.

An EOR still does not settle every tax question for a foreign company with Indian staff. If your India team will sign contracts or close sales, read our guide to permanent establishment risk in India before you scale. For a wider view of providers that own their India entity, see our comparison of the best EOR providers in India.

Table comparing Wisemonk vs Remote India EOR fees, all-in cost of an ₹18 lakh hire and coverage, alongside Remunance
On an ₹18 lakh salary, Wisemonk at $99 costs about $21,300 a year all-in, against $27,300 with Remote at $599.

How much do Wisemonk and Remote charge per India employee?

Wisemonk’s India EOR starts at $99 per employee a month, and its own comparison tables give a range of $99 to $399. Remote’s EOR starts at $599 per employee a month, and its India page shows the same starting price. Wisemonk says it charges no setup fee; Remote says its platform carries no base fee.

Both sell more than EOR. Remote lists contractor management from $29 a month, Contractor Management Plus from $99, Contractor of Record from $325 and global payroll from $29 for entities you already own. Wisemonk lists Contractor of Record at 6% of each contractor payment and recruitment at 10% of annual salary, payable on the join date.

Does Remote still charge $699 a month on monthly billing?

No. Remote’s EOR pricing page now shows one price, starting at $599 per employee a month, with no separate monthly and annual rates. PricingSaaS, which tracks pricing-page changes, recorded the cut from $699 to $599 between 12 and 19 October 2026, alongside a new 15% startup discount.

The discount gives pre-seed to Series A companies 15% off EOR and contractor management for their first 12 months, which brings the EOR fee to about $509 a month. Remote’s help centre still refers to annual fees being non-refundable, so ask whether an annual commitment buys an India rate below $599.

What decides where you land in Wisemonk’s $99 to $399 range?

Wisemonk does not publish the salary bands behind its range. Its pricing page shows only the $99 starting price, while its EOR service page gives $99 to $399 per employee a month. Quotes recorded in our earlier review rose with salary, so ask for the fee at your exact CTC in writing.

Wisemonk also offers discounts for non-profits, startups and climate-focused organisations through an application form. It states there is no minimum commitment on contract length or number of employees, and its FAQ says the monthly invoice comes in your home currency at a locked mid-market exchange rate.

What does each monthly fee include?

Wisemonk’s plan lists legal employment, a dedicated HR business partner, payroll, tax filing, statutory compliance, insurance and well-being benefits, onboarding and equipment setup. Remote’s lists employment without an entity, a dedicated onboarding specialist, local payroll, compliance protections, localised benefits and in-house support. Salary and employer statutory contributions are always billed on top.

Ask each provider whether health insurance premiums sit inside the fee or are billed at cost. Remote’s EOR page also advertises unlimited third-party indemnity coverage. Wisemonk sources equipment locally, and our review recorded hardware passed through at cost, which helps if you would otherwise ship laptops to India.

What does an India employee cost all-in with Wisemonk or Remote?

Using Peorient’s India cost model, an ₹8 lakh hire costs about $10,400 a year all-in with Wisemonk at $99 and $16,400 with Remote at $599. At ₹18 lakh the figures are about $21,300 and $27,300; at ₹35 lakh, $39,700 and $45,700. Statutory costs do not change with the provider; only the fee does.

The model treats the salary as gross pay and sets statutory wages (basic plus DA) at 60% of gross. It charges employer EPF, EDLI and admin at 13% of PF wages capped at ₹25,000 a month, provisions gratuity at 15/26 of monthly statutory wages per year of service, and adds ₹1,000 a month for group health cover. USD figures use ₹94.8 to the dollar, matching our India hiring cost calculator.

Employer cost before any EOR fee, Peorient India cost model (EPF wage ceiling ₹25,000; ₹94.8 per USD). Calculated 26 October 2026.

₹35 lakh₹2,91,667₹3,250₹8,413₹1,000₹36,51,962 ($38,523)

ESIC and statutory bonus do not apply at these salaries. ESIC covers employees earning up to ₹21,000 gross a month, with a 3.25% employer contribution, and the calculator applies bonus only where statutory wages are ₹21,000 a month or less. For lower-paid roles both add materially; see our guide to EPF and ESIC employer contributions.

The next table adds Remunance, Peorient’s first recommendation, at its calculator tier for each salary: $99 at ₹8 lakh, $149 at ₹18 lakh and $199 at ₹35 lakh. Wisemonk’s $99 floor, where Wisemonk applies it, is cheaper at the two higher salaries.

All-in annual employer cost by provider fee (Remunance at its calculator tier for each salary, Remunance EOR cost calculator, 26 Oct 2026; Wisemonk $99 floor and $399 top of published range; Remote $599 list). Peorient cost model, fees verified 26 October 2026.

How much of the all-in cost is the EOR fee?

At ₹8 lakh, the $99 fee charged by Remunance and Wisemonk makes up 11% of the employer’s total annual cost, against 44% for Remote’s $599. At ₹35 lakh the shares are 6% for Remunance at its $199 tier, 3% for Wisemonk at $99 and 16% for Remote.

The cheaper the role, the more the fee decides the business case, so specialist pricing matters most for support, operations and junior engineering hires. If Wisemonk quotes the top of its range, $399, the gap to Remote shrinks to $2,400 a year per head.

With Remote’s startup discount, the gap to a $99 fee is about $4,900 a year for the first 12 months, and the gap to Remunance’s $199 tier about $3,700. Professional tax is deducted from the employee’s pay rather than added to your cost; see our professional tax slabs by state.

How do Wisemonk and Remote handle India statutory payroll?

Both act as the legal employer, so both must run EPF, ESIC where it applies, professional tax, Labour Welfare Fund, gratuity and income-tax withholding through their Indian entity. Wisemonk’s EOR page names PF, ESI, TDS, professional tax and gratuity. Remote’s India pages promise compliance with withholding obligations but do not list each contribution.

Remote’s help centre for its India payroll product does refer to EPF registration, ESI eligibility, Labour Welfare Fund coverage, gratuity nomination and Form 16, which shows its India payroll process covers these items. Ask Remote to confirm the same scope in writing for EOR employees. Wisemonk says employees receive Form 16 and PF and ESI statements, with audit-ready records.

Which 2025 and 2026 rule changes should your EOR already reflect?

Three changes matter for anyone employing in India this year. The four Labour Codes took effect on 21 November 2025, with central rules notified in May 2026. The EPF wage ceiling rose to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026. And Form 130 replaces Form 16 as the salary TDS certificate from tax year 2026-27.

  • EPF wage ceiling: Ministry of Labour and Employment notification S.O. 5109(E) of 17 September 2026 set the EPF wage ceiling at ₹25,000 a month under the Code on Social Security, 2020. Employer outgo for an employee at the ceiling rises from ₹1,950 to ₹3,250 a month, including EDLI and admin charges.
  • Labour Codes: the Codes have applied since 21 November 2025, including gratuity for fixed-term employees after one year of service. Central rules were notified on 8 and 9 May 2026, and state rules vary; our India labour laws guide tracks the detail.
  • Salary TDS certificate: under the Income-tax Act, 2025 and the Income-tax Rules, 2026, Form 130 replaces Form 16 from tax year 2026-27, with the first certificates due by 15 June 2027.

Specifics depend on the employee’s state, contract and pay structure, so confirm positions with a qualified adviser; this is not legal or tax advice.

A quick test: ask each provider for a sample India payslip and annual statutory calendar for a ₹18 lakh employee. Check that PF reflects the ₹25,000 ceiling (or full basic, if you choose that), that gratuity is accrued, and that the tax certificate named is Form 130. Our guide to payroll compliance in India lists every filing.

Which offers better benefits and support for India employees?

Remote publishes a fixed menu of six India health plans with family cover of ₹20 lakh, ₹30 lakh or ₹40 lakh, plus ₹50 lakh accident and disability cover. Wisemonk customises insurance per employee and adds flexible, tax-efficient allowances. For support, Remote offers 24/7 AI chat and 24/5 live agents, while Wisemonk assigns a named India HR business partner.

What benefits can India employees get with each provider?

Remote’s India EOR page lists six tiered health plans, accident and disability cover bundled with health insurance, optional life cover of up to ₹50 lakh or ₹1 crore subject to a salary cap, optional mental health plans, opt-in meal vouchers of ₹2,200 a month and the National Pension System.

Wisemonk lists health, accident and life cover plus flexible allowances, with insurance customisable for each employee. Its Remote comparison page quotes health cover from ₹3 lakh to ₹25 lakh, NPS, and flexible benefits of up to ₹1,69,392. A fixed menu is simpler to administer; a customisable plan suits senior hires who negotiate their package.

How fast is support, and in which hours?

Remote’s help centre says RemoteAI chat runs 24/7, live messaging with human agents runs 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday, and email replies are targeted within 24 hours. Wisemonk assigns an India HR business partner and publishes a response benchmark of under four hours from that person.

India business hours overlap with a UK or European morning but barely with the US working day. US teams choosing Wisemonk should agree an escalation route for urgent payroll or exit issues. Remote’s weekday live chat covers any time zone, but you will not get the same named contact each time.

How quickly can each onboard an India hire?

Wisemonk says most companies have their first employee fully onboarded within two to three business days of signing, and its homepage claims two days to first compliant hire. Remote’s EOR page gives a three-day average onboarding time across all its countries and does not publish an India-specific figure.

In practice, the employee’s identity, tax, bank and PF account details set the pace. Our Wisemonk review found that document checks can add one to three days, so plan at least a week between a signed offer and the start date with either provider.

How do termination, offboarding and contract terms compare?

Wisemonk says it runs the whole offboarding flow, including notice periods, full and final settlement, gratuity, asset recovery, experience letters and statutory filings, and it sets no minimum term. Remote bills its fee from start date to termination date, does not pro-rate partial months and treats annual fees as non-refundable.

Remote’s help article on management fees and offboarding adds that a termination after the payroll cut-off is charged the next month’s fee. It lists no separate fee for a standard offboarding and points to an involuntary offboarding service for contested exits. Ask for the price of that service before you need it.

Do Wisemonk or Remote ask for a deposit?

Neither publishes India deposit terms. Remote’s pricing FAQ raises the question of deposits and accruals without a visible answer, although its startup programme states there is no deposit or setup fee. Wisemonk says it has no setup fees or minimums but does not mention deposits. Get both answers in writing before you sign.

Indian notice and exit rules come from the employment contract, state Shops and Establishments Acts and the Labour Codes, so the provider’s exit process matters as much as its fee. Our guide to full and final settlement in India explains the timelines and components to check.

Should you choose Wisemonk or Remote?

Peorient’s first recommendation for India-only hiring is Remunance, covered in the next section. Between these two, choose Wisemonk if India is your only or main hiring country and fee per head drives the decision. Choose Remote if you need employees in several countries under one contract, want weekday live support across time zones, or prefer a published benefits menu. Companies with a large India team and a few hires elsewhere often use both.

Which is better for one India hire, Wisemonk or Remote?

For a single India employee, Wisemonk saves $2,400 to $6,000 a year in fees against Remote’s $599 list price, depending on where your salary falls in its $99 to $399 range. On an ₹18 lakh salary that means about $21,300 to $24,900 a year all-in with Wisemonk, against $27,300 with Remote.

Remote makes sense for one India hire if you expect to hire in other countries within the year and want one platform from the start, or if you qualify for its startup discount and value 24/5 live support. Price your exact salary at both fees before you compare quotes. Peorient’s own first recommendation for a single India hire is Remunance, covered in the next section.

What should a company with 10 India staff and hires in 4 other countries do?

Split the work. Against putting all 14 people on Remote at list price, using Remunance for the 10 India employees and Remote for the other 4 cuts EOR fees by $48,000 to $60,000 a year, depending on salary band; Wisemonk for India cuts them by $24,000 to $60,000. The trade-off is a second contract, invoice and platform.

Annual EOR fees for 10 India employees plus 4 hires in other countries, list prices verified 26 October 2026; Remunance at its calculator tiers (Remunance EOR cost calculator, 26 Oct 2026), where the $149 tier for ₹11.38 to ₹33.18 lakh gives $3,886 a month and $46,632 a year. Salaries and statutory costs excluded.

Wisemonk (at $399) plus Remote10 x $3994 x $599$6,386$76,6322

Two caveats apply. Remote is reported to discount at volume, and our Deel vs Remote comparison records figures of about $450 to $500 a head, which would narrow the gap; check too that each of your 4 countries is among Remote’s 90+ EOR markets. At 25 to 30 India employees, Wisemonk offers to move staff, records and payroll to your own entity, so weigh our EOR vs subsidiary cost guide before committing long term.

Which is better if you start with contractors?

It depends on who should hold the contract. Remote’s $29 contractor management leaves the contract and misclassification risk with you, while its $325 Contractor of Record takes both on, with uncapped indemnity. Wisemonk’s Contractor of Record charges 6% of each payment and handles contracts, GST and TDS. Below about $5,400 a month in pay, the 6% costs less.

For a contractor billing ₹2 lakh a month (about $2,110), Wisemonk’s 6% comes to roughly $127 a month. Remote’s Contractor Management Plus, at $99, adds indemnity of up to $100,000 per contractor and $1 million per company while you keep the contract. Wisemonk says freelancers can move to its Contractor of Record or EOR plans without re-onboarding.

Long-term, full-time contractors who work under your direction carry misclassification risk, so plan the switch to EOR early. Our employee vs contractor hiring guide sets out the differences.

Which India EOR does Peorient recommend first?

Peorient recommends Remunance first for hiring in India. Its EOR cost calculator prices it at $99 per employee a month for annual salaries up to ₹11.38 lakh (USD 12,000), $149 up to ₹33.18 lakh (USD 35,000) and $199 above that, its highest tier. Remunance is our affiliated India partner.

On this post’s cost model, that puts the all-in annual cost at ₹9,86,699 ($10,408) for an ₹8 lakh salary on the $99 tier, ₹20,72,425 ($21,861) for ₹18 lakh on the $149 tier and ₹38,78,344 ($40,911) for ₹35 lakh on the $199 tier. The tiers assume the calculator’s optional add-ons (recruitment support, IT assets and co-working space) are switched off.

Why does Peorient put Remunance first?

Peorient puts Remunance first because it is our affiliated India partner, and for three reasons you can check:

  • India specialist since 2004: Remunance Services Pvt Ltd was founded in Pune in 2004 and offers EOR, international PEO, subsidiary formation and contractor of record services; its head office is in Kothrud, Pune.
  • ISO 27001 certified: Remunance states on its homepage that it is an ISO 27001-certified EOR in India.
  • A low ceiling on fees: its highest calculator tier, $199, is about half Wisemonk’s $399 top tier and a third of Remote’s $599, and the calculator shows the band for any salary.

Where does Remunance cost more, or fit less well?

Remunance is not the cheapest option at every salary. If Wisemonk applies its $99 floor at ₹18 lakh or ₹35 lakh, it costs $600 or $1,200 a year less per head than Remunance’s $149 and $199 tiers, so ask Wisemonk for its fee at your exact CTC.

Remunance is India-focused, so for employees in other countries price a global EOR such as Remote alongside it, as in the 10 plus 4 scenario above.

Which alternatives should you shortlist for India hiring?

Shortlist Remunance first: Peorient’s featured India partner, priced from $99 per employee a month on its own EOR cost calculator, with $199 as its highest tier. Then price Deel, a global EOR from $599 a month; Multiplier, from $459 a month on annual contracts; and Asanify, which offers India EOR alongside HR software, with quote-based fees.

Each suits a different mix of countries, budget and service model. Our Asanify vs Wisemonk comparison sets Wisemonk against another India specialist, and Remunance vs Wisemonk sets it against Peorient’s first pick.

How can you decide between Wisemonk and Remote in 15 minutes?

Work through eight checks in about 15 minutes: count your hiring countries, price your real salaries, get each fee quoted at your CTC, then confirm money terms, statutory scope, support hours, security reports and the exit path. The first two checks usually settle the choice; the rest prevent surprises after signing.

  1. Count countries (2 minutes). India only for the next 12 months points to an India specialist: Remunance is our first pick, and Wisemonk is the better fit of the two compared here. Three or more countries points to Remote, or to a split.
  2. Price real salaries (3 minutes). Run each planned CTC through Peorient’s cost calculator at Remunance’s tier for that salary ($99, $149 or $199), then at $99, $399 and $599.
  3. Get your band (2 minutes). Remunance’s calculator shows its band for any salary; send Wisemonk your CTCs and ask which fee applies; ask Remote whether annual billing, volume or the startup discount changes its India rate.
  4. Confirm money terms (2 minutes). Ask each provider about deposits, minimum term, FX margin and how the final month is billed.
  5. Test statutory scope (2 minutes). Request a sample payslip showing EPF at the ₹25,000 ceiling, professional tax, Labour Welfare Fund, gratuity accrual and the Form 130 process.
  6. Check support hours (1 minute). Map live support hours against your managers’ working day.
  7. Ask for security reports (1 minute). Request the SOC 2 Type II report and the ISO 27001 certificate from each provider.
  8. Decide the exit path (2 minutes). If you expect 25 or more India staff, ask how each provider moves employees to your own entity.

What else do buyers ask about Wisemonk and Remote?

  • Is Wisemonk cheaper than Remote for hiring in India?

Yes, on published prices. Wisemonk's India EOR starts at $99 per employee a month, with a published range of $99 to $399, while Remote starts at $599. On an ₹18 lakh salary, Peorient's cost model puts the all-in annual cost at about $21,300 with Wisemonk at $99 and $27,300 with Remote. Ask Wisemonk which band applies to your salary.

  • Does Remote have its own entity in India?

Yes. Remote's India employer of record page states that it owns its legal entity in India and provides EOR services in-house. Its EOR page says it operates 100+ entities it owns, with no third parties, and offers EOR in 90+ countries. Your India employee's contract and payroll therefore sit with Remote's own Indian company.

  • Who owns Wisemonk and where is it based?

Wisemonk's privacy notice names Storypeach Technologies Private Limited, registered in Seshadripuram, Bengaluru, Karnataka, as the company doing business as Wisemonk. Its founder and CEO is Aditya Nagpal, who started the business in 2020. The site footer also lists Storyy Inc., a US company in Claymont, Delaware. Wisemonk says it serves 300+ companies and 2,000+ employees.

  • How long does it take to onboard an employee in India with Wisemonk or Remote?

Wisemonk says most first hires are fully onboarded within two to three business days of signing. Remote quotes a three-day average onboarding time across all its countries, without an India-specific figure. Document checks on identity, tax, bank and PF details can add a few days, so allow about a week between a signed offer and the start date.

  • Can Wisemonk hire employees outside India?

No. Wisemonk is an India-only Employer of Record, although its clients come from 20+ countries. If you also need employees in other countries, you will need a global EOR such as Remote or Deel for those hires. Many companies use an India specialist, such as Remunance or Wisemonk, for their Indian team and a global provider for the rest.

  • Does Remote require a security deposit for India employees?

Remote does not publish India deposit terms. Its pricing FAQ raises the question of deposits and accruals without a visible answer, and its startup programme states there is no deposit or setup fee. Wisemonk does not publish deposit terms either. Ask both providers for the deposit, if any, in writing before signing.

  • Which EOR does Peorient recommend for hiring in India?

Peorient recommends Remunance first for India hiring. Its EOR cost calculator charges $99 per employee a month for salaries up to ₹11.38 lakh, $149 up to ₹33.18 lakh and $199 above that, its highest tier. Between Wisemonk and Remote, Wisemonk costs less for India-only teams and Remote suits multi-country hiring. Peorient is affiliated with Remunance and may earn a referral fee.
